As part of his quest to take on Mount Everest in 2019, Greg Johnson will take part in this year’s HBF Run for a Reason as a Community Ambassador for Lifeline WA.

Greg experienced mental health issues in his early 20s and now wants to help others by raising awareness about mental health and suicide.

“I had experienced a great sense of accomplishment up to that point but then all of a sudden, everything I loved started to dwindle away and my life took a different turn, leaving me feeling like I had lost everything I had,” he said.

“It got to such a state that I began to withdraw and my mind began to torment me to such a point that I wanted to take my own life; at the time, it felt like the most obvious and only choice I had.

Greg chose to climb Mount Everest for Lifeline WA as, for him, it represents the idea of reaching out for a lifeline, which for some might be Lifeline’s 13 11 14 crisis support service.

Lifeline WA Chief Executive Office Lorna MacGregor is grateful for all Greg’s efforts and encourages other people in the community to also get involved in the run and raise funds for Lifeline WA.

“Suicide prevention really is a community effort, and Greg is doing an amazing job as our Community Ambassador of raising awareness and funds for Lifeline WA,” she said.

“Participating in the HBF Run for a Reason is good for your physical and mental health; we encourage Western Australians to run in this year’s HBF Run for a Reason and raise funds for Lifeline WA so we can save more lives.”

The HBF Run for a Reason will take on Sunday May 27, 2018. People who are interested in participating in the event can sign up at hbfrun.com.au.
