Biggest Loser contestant Alison Braun and Channel 9 News Presenter Michael Thomson have joined forces with Lifeline WA as Ambassadors at this year’s HBF Run for a Reason.

In the lead up to the 10 year anniversary of her husband passing by suicide, and having also lost her biological father to suicide, Braun is passionate about raising awareness of the issue.

“The loss of my husband and biological father does not define me as a person; it makes me stronger and more determined to bring awareness, change and education,” she said.

Alison became a Biggest Loser contestant in 2008 and embarked on a journey of self-discovery that resulted in not only weight loss, but also insight into how she was living her life.

Six months after her time on the Biggest Loser, she tragically lost her husband, and the father of their three children, Robert, to suicide in November 2008.

“I want to make sure that what has happened to our family does not happen to other families,” she said.

Channel 9 News presenter Michael Thomson, nicknamed ‘Thommo’, is running as a Lifeline WA Ambassador in this year’s HBF Run for a Reason to raise awareness of suicide in the community, particularly male suicide.

“Three in every four Western Australians who die by suicide each year are men, something I find really shocking as a WA man myself,” he said.

“I want to make sure that men in Western Australia know that it is okay to reach out for help; Lifeline WA is there for you.”

The HBF Run for a Reason will take on Sunday May 27, 2018. People who are interested in participating in the event can sign up at hbfrun.com.au.
