Support for Separated Dads

Support for Separated Dads- a specialist loss counselling service for WA

Guiding you through separation or bereavement

Lifeline WA’s Separated Dads program is a unique service that provides support to dads before, during and after separation or if they have experienced a bereavement in a partnership or as a parent or child. Lifeline WA welcomes Dads from the LGBTI+ community.

Bereavement is traditionally linked to death and the grief that one feels after the loss of a loved one. However, feelings of bereavement can also be associated with other loss such as separation. Our counselling team provides individual support, education and group workshops for fathers who want to:

  • Access practical and emotional support and assistance after the loss of a loved one through separation or bereavement

  • Communicate effectively with the other parent and deal with difficult behaviours from your ex-partner

  • Be prepared for mediation and to better understand the mediation process

  • Understand the complexities of the Family Court and the legal system

  • Create a co-parenting plan designed specifically to meet the needs of their children

We can also work with your child/children to assist them to if they are affected by the change in the family unit or loss of a parent.

Lifeline WA does not provide legal advice but we can supply information on how to access legal advice where needed. We can also refer to other support services relevant to individual family situations.

On the  last Friday of the month we run mixed and single workshops for parents to meet with others and learn more about:

  • family law court processes

  • writing a co-parenting plan

  •  building resilience after separation and

  • communicating when relationships have broken down.

This program is supported by the Department of Communities.
