Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme
Combating loneliness with care and connection
Loneliness and social isolation can have a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of older people. The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) at Lifeline WA helps improve the quality of life for older adults by connecting them with compassionate volunteer visitors.
Whether it’s sharing a conversation, a cuppa, or a short walk, these visits can make a world of difference.
The ACVVS is funded by the Australian Government and offers free companionship visits to eligible older people living in residential aged care facilities or receiving a Home Care Package in their own home.

Frequently asked questions
How often will I be visited?
Volunteer visitors commit to visiting at least once every two weeks. Some may be available weekly, depending on availability and preferences.
What kind of activities will we do?
Activities vary depending on your interests. Common options include chatting over tea, playing board games, listening to music, doing puzzles, or enjoying a walk.
What if I don’t feel a connection with my visitor?
Sometimes it takes a few visits to feel comfortable. If it doesn’t work out after several meetings, we’ll try to match you with someone else.
What if my visitor gets sick?
They will cancel the visit and reschedule once they are well. We prioritise your health and safety.
What if I’m not feeling well?
You can postpone the visit. Your visitor will understand and reschedule.
Can my visitor take care of my pet?
No. Visitors are not allowed to care for pets under any circumstances.
Can my visitor take me to medical appointments or hospital?
No. ACVVS volunteers provide social support only. For transport needs, speak with your home care provider.
What happens in a medical emergency?
Your visitor will call 000 and stay with you until help arrives. They can also contact your emergency contact.
Can my visitor bring their pet?
Yes, if you’d like them to and if their pet is well trained. This must be approved by facility staff if you live in residential care.
