Peer support training for the resources sector throughout Australia
Supporting mental health and wellbeing in the resources sector
Resourceful Mind™ is an award-winning peer support program developed by Lifeline WA in partnership with the Chamber of Minerals and Energy WA (CME). It reflects a shared commitment to improving mental health and wellbeing across the resources sector, particularly for remote and FIFO workers who can face unique challenges.
Why choose Resourceful Mind™?
The Resourceful Mind™ program was created in response to research showing that resource sector workers are at greater risk of mental ill health due to factors such as isolation, long hours, high job demands, and limited access to support services. Through Resourceful Mind, Lifeline WA trains peer supporters, known as Minders, to be trusted, approachable contacts for colleagues navigating personal or work-related challenges.
Training is delivered by experienced Lifeline WA Crisis Supporters and supported through a virtual membership model. Time-efficient ongoing development sessions build upon upfront training and keep skills current.

Frequently asked questions
How does Resourceful Mind™ help organisations comply with WA’s Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act 2020?
Resourceful Mind™ supports compliance with WA’s WHS Act 2020, which requires employers to manage psychosocial hazards, including bullying, harassment, poor support, job demands, and exposure to traumatic events. Under the Act, a person conducting a business must eliminate or minimise these risks as far as reasonably practicable. By embedding peer support into the workplace, Resourceful Mind helps employers take proactive steps to prevent psychological harm and foster a mentally healthy workplace.
How is the training delivered?
Resourceful Mind™ training is delivered 100% virtually, making it accessible to workers across remote and regional locations. Sessions are instructor-led by experienced Lifeline WA Crisis Supporters.
To accommodate shift work and FIFO schedules, training times are flexible and designed to fit around operational demands. In addition to live sessions, learners also gain access to optional eLearning modules, allowing them to further build their knowledge and skills at their own pace.
This blended approach ensures Minders are well prepared to provide confidential, practical peer support to their colleagues.
Is there a minimum number of memberships?
No, there is no minimum membership requirement for the Resourceful Mind™ program. The initiative is fully scalable, allowing organisations to tailor participation based on their workforce size and operational locations. Lifeline WA can provide guidance on the recommended number of Minders to support your team effectively, ensuring coverage across shifts, sites, and roles.
How long are the memberships?
Each Resourceful Mind™ membership is valid for 12 months, with the option to renew annually. Throughout the year, Minders complete a series of core training sessions to build strong foundational peer support skills. They then participate in ongoing development training designed to develop their knowledge and enhance their effectiveness as peer supporters over time.
Do you offer scholarships?
Thanks to funding from the Mental Awareness, Respect and Safety (MARS) Program, Lifeline WA is able to offer eligible organisations access to scholarships for the Resourceful Mind™ program. This support enables more workplaces in the resources sector to implement peer support programs that promote mental health and wellbeing. Please contact us to find out if you are eligible to receive a MARS funded scholarship.
What are the technology requirements for Resourceful Mind™ training?
To participate in Resourceful Mind™ training, Minders will need access to a reliable internet connection, as well as a desktop computer or laptop equipped with a speaker and microphone. While the training can be accessed via mobile devices, using a computer is strongly recommended for optimal functionality and engagement during the sessions.
