Building a Stronger Culture of Support: How Regis Resources is Empowering Peer Connection Through Resourceful Mind

At Regis Resources, the wellbeing of its people is recognised as essential to a safe, productive and sustainable workplace. With operations across remote and regional settings, the organisation understands the unique pressures that can affect workers and the importance of building support that is practical, trusted and accessible.

That’s what led Regis Resources to be a part of Lifeline WA’s Resourceful Mind program – an award-winning peer support initiative developed for the resources sector. Designed to strengthen early support in mining and FIFO environments, Resourceful Mind equips trusted peer supporters, known as Minders, with the skills and confidence to have supportive conversations and guide colleagues towards appropriate help when needed.

Why Regis Resources chose Resourceful Mind

For Regis Resources, the motivation to participate was clear: people often speak first to someone they know and trust, rather than to a formal support service. By investing in peer-based support, the organisation has been able to strengthen the layers of care available across its workforce in a way that feels relevant to site-based environments.

The partnership also aligns closely with Regis Resources’ commitment to creating a workplace culture grounded in care, respect and shared responsibility, while supporting mental health in the same way it prioritises physical safety.

A practical impact on the people delivering it

For the employees trained as Minders, the impact has also been deeply personal.

One participant shared: “After completing the Resourceful Mind Program, I feel more confident engaging with peers who may be experiencing challenges. I’ve come to understand that simply listening, without feeling the need to offer solutions, can be incredibly valuable.

The program has provided practical strategies for navigating uncomfortable situations and has made a meaningful contribution to my personal growth.”

This reflection speaks to one of the program’s greatest strengths: helping everyday people feel more prepared to support others in ways that are safe, compassionate and realistic. It’s not about having all the answers — it’s about knowing how to listen, respond and connect someone with further support when needed.

Supporting safer, more connected workplaces

Resourceful Mind was developed by Lifeline WA in partnership with the Chamber of Minerals and Energy WA to respond to the real mental health challenges faced by resource sector workers, particularly in remote and FIFO settings. The program is backed by evaluation from Edith Cowan University, which found that participation did not negatively impact the psychological health of Minders.

For organisations like Regis Resources, it offers a practical and evidence-informed way to strengthen wellbeing from within – by building connection, confidence and a culture where people feel supported to speak up early.
