About the event
Lifeline WA is visiting Paraburdoo & Tom Price from May 11-14 to deliver six free evidence-based youth mental health and suicide prevention sessions for students, teachers, parents, coaches, youth workers, first responders and community organisations.
Registrations are essential as places are strictly limited.

LivingWorks safeTALK
Monday 11 May, 2026 | 9.00am – 12.30pm
Karingal Neighbourhood Centre, Paraburdoo WA

LivingWorks safeTALK gives individuals the confidence and practical skills to recognise when someone may be thinking about suicide and take action by connecting them to safety.
The “safe” in safeTALK stands for Suicide Alertness for Everyone. Participants learn simple, powerful steps to recognise signs of suicide, start the conversation, and connect someone to further support.
Objectives:
- Notice and respond to invitations for help
- Practice open, direct conversations about suicide
- Explore how your attitudes and beliefs can affect your ability to help
- Identify available resources and connect people with further care and support
This session is suitable for anyone aged 15 years or older who wants to help keep people around them safe from suicide.

Hello, This is Lifeline

This is a practical introductory toolkit session for young people aged 16 and above. In this session, participants will learn about the services Lifeline offers, a range of reasons young people may use crisis support, and how it can help. They will also explore basic steps on how to check in with a friend and encourage them to seek further support.
Objectives:
- Describe what to expect when a help seeker calls, texts, or chats online with Lifeline
- Recognise signs that they or one of their peers may need support
- Encourage appropriate help seeking (such as talking to a trusted adult)
This session is suitable for anyone aged 16 and older. This can include schools, youth services and sporting clubs.

Standard Mental Health First Aid (Blended Session)
Tuesday 12 May, 2026 | 1.00pm – 5.00pm

Mental Health First Aid equips adults with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to respond to a friend, family member, co-worker, or other adult experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis. Participants learn how to approach someone they are concerned about, initiate a conversation, offer initial support and information and encourage the person to seek help.
Topics include depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance use disorders, thoughts of suicide, panic attacks, and providing support after a traumatic event. The course is led by a MHFA trained and Licensed Standard MHFA Instructor.
Objectives:
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems in adults.
- Use an evidence-based action plan to initiate a mental health first aid conversation.
- Know the barriers to help-seeking and how to overcome these.
- Assess for a range of crisis situations and provide initial support.
- Understand the prevalence and impact of mental illnesses, risk factors and treatments and supports available.
- Apply self-care practices as a Mental Health First Aider.
Participants who complete the course and a short online assessment can become an Accredited Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider).
Accreditations are valid for 3 years and can be extended for a further 3 years with a Refresher (link to that page on the website).
This session is suitable for anyone aged 18 years or older.

Youth Mental Health First Aid (2-Days)
Wednesday 13 May – Thursday 14 May, 2026 | 9.00am – 5.00pm

Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches participants how to provide initial support to a young person (aged 12-18) who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis. Participants learn how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem, approach a young person they are concerned about, offer initial support and information and help the young person to seek professional help or other supports.
Topics include depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance use disorders, thoughts of suicide, panic attacks, and providing support after a traumatic event. The course is led by an MHFA trained and Licensed Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor.
Participants who complete the course and a short online assessment can become an Accredited Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider). Accreditations are valid for 3 years and can be extended for a further 3 years with a Refresher.

- Identify signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in young people
- Use an evidence-based action plan to engage young people in mental health first aid conversation
- Assess for a range of crises and provide initial support
- Distinguish differences between expected changes during adolescence and the development of mental health problems
- Understand the MHFA role and the medical rights of minors
- Apply self-care practices as a Mental Health First Aider
This session is suitable for anyone aged 18 years or older. It is recommended for adults supporting adolescents across a wide range of settings including schools, community groups, organisations and sporting clubs.
