Course Description:
Stigma is one of the largest barriers to seeking help. Social support and encouragement from others can have a positive influence.
Supporting Yourself and Others equips participants with knowledge and skills to recognise possible signs of declining mental wellbeing, initiate meaningful check-in conversations, and encourage proactive help-seeking.
We also discuss maintaining personal wellbeing and how Lifeline can help when participants need extra support or are concerned about someone they know.
Objectives
- Recognise general signs of poorer mental health and wellbeing.
- Discuss what providing appropriate help to others involves, including potential barriers to help-seeking.
- Apply basic check-in conversation strategies with a colleague who may be experiencing distress.
- Use a “traffic light” system to monitor personal mental health and wellbeing.
- Locate appropriate support services and options.
Who will benefit from this training?
- Supporting Yourself and Others is a time efficient workshop to offer to all team members.
- The workshop can form part of your mentally healthy workplace strategy, and is a good complement to more comprehensive training for workplace peer supporters.
