Course Description:
Preventing suicide is everyone’s business. Thoughts of suicide are common, but when faced with possible warning signs we can be unsure of what to say or do.
This workshop is for anyone who wants to increase their understanding of suicide and learn basic steps to provide initial support. The session addresses common myths about suicide, explores its prevalence in Australia, and provides practical guidance on recognising signs and connecting to further help.
Objectives
- Distinguishing facts from myths about suicide.
- Recognise signs that someone might be having thoughts of suicide.
- Explore barriers that can prevent individuals with suicidal thoughts from seeking help.
- Discuss practical strategies to support people experiencing suicidal thoughts and connect them with appropriate support services.
