Course Description:
Training for people who regularly have conversations with clients or customers who may be experiencing thoughts of suicide. Includes possible warning signs including verbal cues, how to safely ask and talk about suicide, and what to do if the person says yes or no.
Participants learn how to work with the caller to increase immediate safety and take appropriate action including referral to appropriate supports.
Objectives
- Recognise stigmas, myths and facts about suicide in Australia.
- Identify warning signs that a person may be having thoughts of suicide.
- Apply strategies to provide initial support to customers or clients and connect them to support services.
- Recognise the importance of boundaries, self-awareness and self-care strategies in supporting callers with suicidal thoughts.
Who will benefit from this training?
- This workshop is designed for roles requiring further knowledge and skills to respond to customers or clients experiencing thoughts of suicide.
- Examples include roles who respond to calls about legal, financial or emergency relief assistance, contact centre escalations staff and team leaders.
